That part of the dash is not an option on the 4th Gens. There is too much stuff behind the cubby door.

Mine is mounted here:

ya i would try mounting it there if i had a 4th gen 4runner.....but i have a 2002 which is still a 3rd gen.

but i was thinking about just taking the overhead light out since i never use it and put my radio right there. i got a cobra 29 WX NW ST so its a pretty big radio, and its too deep for the dash which was the first place i was gonna put it.

just my .02 regarding cb shops and "doctors" or "golden screwdrivers". might want to look at what a "peak and tune" entails.

you probably want to avoid this if it entails clipping limiters or turning up the VR way beyond where they should be - this can lead to lots of bleedover onto other channels, and overmodulation to the point where you can be unintelligible to others.

and you'll irritate other drivers in the vicinity.

hey Teampez, do you know if that cb shop will do custom work to the cb besides peaking and tuning it, like putting in a new meter light and channel display?
