EDIT: TRIP INFO

Mojave Road Trip Dates: September 17 (Friday) through September 19 (Sunday).

Those of us coming from Las Vegas, will meet around 7:30ish am here @ Findlay Toyota. We will leave from here, and head down to Laughlin to meet up with those from California.

We will meet up as last year @ the Avi Hotel & Casino just outside of Laughlin, NV ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 17th @ 9:00 am. We will leave the parking lot by 9:30 am.

CB comms will be on Ch. #38. ham on 146.550.

Note: There is a gas station @ the Avi, and it's much less expensive than in Laughlin Or Needles. In fact, those coming from California, if you can make it to the Avi without stopping for gas in Needles, then you should, Gas prices in Needles are at or over $4.00 per gallon.

More info to come!!!!!!!

So, for all of the first timers............things that are required:

Your own personal toilet system!!! We HAVE TO PACK OUR SHlT OUT!!!!
This is mandatory, and is one of the conditions of my NPS permit!!!!

COMMUNICATIONS!!!!!! EVERY TRUCK Must have a working CB (min)
and/or a ham!!!!

Lots of extra water!!! And also.....bring lots of extra water!!!!! Also......bring Lots of extra water!!!!!!! Not just drinking water, you'll also want to bring containers full of water!!!! We will, after all, be in the middle of the Mojave Desert!!!!

Extra Gas!!!!!! Extra Gas!!!!!! I bring 15 extra gallons........10 will probably do it, but if you can bring a little extra, that will be better!!!! The Mojave Road itself, the main portion, is almost 140 miles........but we will be taking side trips, and that plus letting the trucks run for AC during the days, will eat up gas quickly......again, we're in the middle of the Mojave Desert, and there are no 7-11's or gas stations!!!!

These are a couple of the main things that you need, obviously, food, drinks, camping stuff, etc.........

There appears to be a repeater in Mojave as well. 444.575+ PL 173.8 I'll try and search for any more/better repeaters in the area.

Barstow 147.780 + 151.4
Newberry Springs 146.100 - 151.4

The fourth repeater was in Victorville and in the past, I have been able to keep in touch with members of our group as they entered Victorville and worked their way to our camp in the heart of the desert. There were also some private repeaters in the Baker and Halloran Summit area that see very little use.

Is that in the Mojave Preserve......or Mojave, CA?? Two different places....

EDIT>>>>>>>>>>

Nevermind.....I clicked on the link......that's for Mojave, CA. That is out by California City and Edwards AFB.

Ahh, okay. I'll check when I get home. I have a repeater application that will show the best repeaters for a given location (if I can find the disc).

EDIT: Updated my first post...

Don't think that there's one in the Mojave Preserve, although I don't know for sure. But.....with all of the ham operators that have been out there with us, none has mentioned any.

It doesn't need to be IN the preserve, just overlooking it.

Brett has searched before, and I think he said Mt. Potosi was the closest.
I of course, don't know.

I'm about 90% sure I'm in at this point, just want to double check that there's no plans already that I'm forgetting about. I have a friend who just picked up an FJ and he want's to start using it. He has very little experience in wheeling, but want's to learn. Would this be a good event for him to go to?

Cool, hope you make it. The dates are set, so it should be easy for folks to plan, as there will be no "if's" like Last year. I put up two possible dates, and it was confusing for some, as some wanted one, and some the other.
The dates are firm.

And as for your friend in the FJ, yes, this will be a fine trip to break him into our world!!!
Just make sure that he comes prepared for the desert!!

Right on Jon. If your FJ friends aren't members here yet, have them
Register so they can post up and stay involved.
