I dont have a rear bumper and dont plan too. I sold my boat and dirtbikes so i dont haul anymore. I have minimal weight in the rear of my truck at all times(~50lbs). I drive onroad 80% and want a great ride with good offroad capabilities. Toytec superflex or OME 895's? Thoughts?

Good question, I have wondered myself what the true difference is. There are a set of the superflex over on T4R for sale in the classified section.

I am also considering both options and have not decided which one to go with. When I mentioned the Toytec Superflex my local OME distributor recommended the OME895E (light duty)

Love my 895's. It rides a little stiff but not uncomfortably so. If I remember right the 895e coils won't give you as much lift.

I thought the 895's were for 10'+ and the 895e's are for 03-09'. I could definitely be wrong though! I'm leaning towards the superflex coils, just for a better ride.

You are welcome. Question, are you under a tight budget for the suspension upgrade?

Yes. With 80k on the XREAS and it starting to feeling some-what soft, im gonna replace the shocks. First thought was Bilstein 5100's with stock coils and possibly a small spacer but want more lift. Second though was Bilstein 5100's with FJ springs. I came to the fact that i want new springs and shocks, so thats when the OME set up came into the picture. I cant afford and dont need c.o.'s. I have no intention of putting bumpers on. So the OME 885's w/ top plate spacers and Toytec superflex coils are my final decision.

Im 95% sure im going with OME 885's with spacer and Toytec Superflex coils for the rear. As for tires; my original though was 265's but many with a 3" lift that origianally had 265's go to 285's after a while. Now im thinking about 285's! Im gonna run 265 studded tires for the winter but i might want 285's for the other months. If i get 285's, will i need some aftermarket UCS's to keep from "floating"? I know it will help getting the rig back to stock numbers but are they worth it?
Should i get 285's for the summer or stick with 265's year round?

If you move to 285's, would you get some aftermarket UCA's for the "floating" or deal with it?

The reason I have 265's now is when I bought these tires a year ago all I had was the daystar kit before my fj stuff. The tires looked great and performed great at the time. If I knew I was going to later get the OME stuff i would've done 285's, just for looks honestly. With 285's I'll get a little more lift from the tires and it will look nice, but with that I'll take a hit on gas mileage and in my checkbook. As far as drivability and off roading it won't make a huge difference. Also I have spidertrax on mine and that makes the 265's I have look a little more aggressive just due to the wider stance. What I've decided to do is stick with the 265's because in person they really do look great, they are brand new and I'm wanting to buy a DSLR camera so should hold off on spending another 800 bucks on tires. As far as uca's go they are a good thing to have. It does tend to wander slightly on the highway mainly due to alignment restraints with this much lift and the geometry of the stock uca's. It's something I can live with for now because I don't drive much at all (maybe 7k miles a year), and 98 percent of my driving is city. When I do get 285's I'll get uca's then. Keep in mind the tire size won't have anything to do with the wandering or floating on the highway, it's all in the stock uca's is what I've been told. All that being said, if i were you I'd get the ome stuff on with your stock tires still mounted up and find a cool tire shop with good prices and see what both tire sizes look like. I know both will look good, but that way you'll be able to decide if you want to drop the extra money on 285's or not. Hope this book i just wrote helps. Zach

I ran OME rear springs on my 1997 Prado and 2000 4runner and it always felt like an improvement. Not this time.
I am running 895s on my 2007 4R and I feel I ruined the truck's ride. Really. Especially its road manners. It feels bouncy, harsh and even caused some small rattles to accentuate. To give you an example, at 20MPH on a paved road my 3 y.o. daughter asks me to slow down because she can't stop bouncing. Off road it rides great (as expected), but I am on the pavement 90% of the time. Ordered the Toytec superflex and hope to get a considerable difference in ride quality. Fingers crossed. |

OK guys, sorry forgoing dark so long. I finally installed the Toytec Superflex rear springs in replacement of the OME 895 springs. The ride is much better, still feels firm but its not harsh, and it's a lot more comfortable. I have yet to test them off road but so far I am very happy with the switch.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger myself but don't want the harshness like I have now with the Fj springs and procomp shocks. It's like riding on stones now and hope to soften up some with the swap.
