Talking Mike's Supercharged 2005 4Runner 4x4 Sport

Hi everyone,

This is my 2005 4Runner 4x4 Sport that I have had since late 2010. My wife bought this while I was deployed and I have been putting work into it since I got back. This is my second 4Runner and I really like how it has turned out. I have built it for my off-road expeditions so that it will get me where ever I want to go and be able to sustain myself for days. I have put emphasis on the Camping gear, Suspenison to take the abuse of the harsh desert and mountains. For performance I have added a Rotrex C30 Supercharger kit with a water to air intercooler from URD. I have put over 60K miles on it and it has been a great vehicle to me. I have always done my own work on my vehicles and I can proudly say that THIS IS MY BUILD!

I will also add my links to my adventures and I hope that it will inspire others to get out, explore and experience life.

Excellent! I get up there a few times a year, usually hit the Cheese though as it is the closest S. Platte access, other than the "river" (sewer) through Denver.

Nice wheels! Rig looks good.

By chance, would you happen to have any additional pics of the roof rack? Details of the rack build?

Thanks

Default Front Runner Outfitters LC 100 Rack

So, after a failed attempt to build my own platform rack. I decided to go with the one from Front Runner Outfitters in Burbank, CA.

I purchased the one for the Landcruiser 100 series for around $1300

It uses two tracks that I lined up the 2 rear holes and drilled in 2 new ones for the front. Then lined up the 6 feet and put on the rack. It mounted right up and is of great quality. Infact front runner says that it is rated to carry up to 300kg/660 lbs*

Now All I need is a tent for the top and I'll be ready for some trips out in the back country this summer.

Thanks alot, I guess great minds think alike.

For the rack I built, it went together okay, but I questioned its stability and couldn't come up with a better mounting system than the factory rails, which broke under load

So, after much internal debate and charming the wife into the idea. I purchased the Front Runner rack which is much more stable.

I put it all together in about 2 hours. I'll do a write up as soon as I get some time. Overall, I am very happy with the set up.

Thanks.

I know it is a little ghetto, but it is a work in progress. Today I got my Alps Mountaineering Meramac 2 tent to use as a roof top tent for the new rack.

So far the only problems are that 1. I need to come up with a sturdy mounting system. 2. I need to buy a full size air bed as opposed to a queen sized (the does queen fit) and 3. it needs a storm to test it out.

Default My Custom RTT (low cost solution)

Its also only about 5 to 7lbs, takes about 2 minutes to unpack and put up, and cost only $90.

the set up consists of

1. I used the Front Runner 4' X 7' rack
2. Alps Mountaineering Merimac 5x7 tent with aluminium poles
3. A queen sized air bed EDIT: Replaced with two (2) Alps mountaineering self inflating pads

That's nice. I will say it does look pretty ridiculous. People at the camp ground might look at you a little funny. But hey, it's functional and costs 10x less than the cheapest RTT. thats good in my book. You can laugh at the losers on the ground when are being attacked by wild hogs or something

very silly IMO, the advantage i see to RTT's is quick and easy, but i have a couple alps mountaineering tents in very happy with after many years of abuse.

Default First Big Trip Cross the country and Back again

So, this summer I moved from Oklahoma to Florida and finally to my job for the next couple of years back in California. We first went out to California to sign for our house and took the long way going through Colorado Springs, Ouray and Moab. In Colorado Springs we hit Pikes Peak which was paved since my last trip up it We then ventured around Rocky Mountain National Park, CO to the source of the Colorado River. We saw some Moose and did some fishing. We headed on to Ouray and Silverton for the Alpine Loop.

We then headed on to Moab to hit some trails to include Canyonlands NP and Kane Creek. After that we headed to California to work out the stuff for the house and headed on to Florida for school for the next month or so. Florida was nice and we got one weekend off from work where i got to take the kids out to Eglin AFB to go wheeling. After that next month or so we took the long drive back to California to move in to our house. I took a couple weeks off to get moved in. i took a few of those days off to go fishing in NorCAL for some fishing and meet up with some folks on here to go run Hollister.

Default DIY Drawers w/ Roller Top

Finally got around to building some drawers this weekend. I built the little one with a roller top. I still want to do some black plastic trim on the front. I need to buy a handle for the little one. I also ordered a set of 36" 500lb sliders after the flimsy ones i bought at the store stripped.

I will do a write up when I get a chance. all together it was $85 for the wood and about $40 for supplies. I am by no means a carpenter, but I like the way they turned out.

I used two large sheets of ply-wood $42 each measured them out into the dimensions I wanted

I built a roller top on to the top of the box. Originally I put the sliders on the open top, but soon figures out that closing the box and mounting the roller top board on to that worked best. I had to go back and buy better HD sliders for the weight of the fridge.

I then carpeted everything with some indoor/outdoor gray carpet.

EDIT: I went back about a month after making these and put a solid plank top to the roller top and then sandwiched the slides and the fridge platform down on it. It is much better now.

Nice Job! That fridge is one of the best accesories to have. Love the fishing gear on the ceiling.

Finished product minus the Heavy Duty drawer slides for the big one that I am STILL waiting on. I should get my ARB tie down for the fridge tomorrow. All my gear and truck stuff goes in the big one. The tent, air bed, pillows and sheets go in the little one.
