For the longest time I have wanted to find something new to do with my son who's now about to turn 16. We've done surfing, offroading, Kart racing, martial arts, and we'll start a project build up of a Toyota Scion TC soon as he gets his licence. In the meantime....
This Friday we are doing our first gun class together. 2hrs training is a start. 1hr of class time talking safety, maintenance, operation etc, then an hr in the range shooting a variety of pistols. I really want him to learn respect, but also the thrill, of mastering shooting. Same goes for me! I actually hope he might like to take this up as a hobby. Would love to be able to go to range each week, compare thoughts on various pistols, and maybe start collecting a few over time. Some people will probably give me schit over this, but I don't give a rats ass. Connecting with my son and seeing him turn into a man is my priority. I had the opportunity from a young age (10) to shoot rifles on a farm that was being invaded with rabbits that had myxomatosis. Love the whole thing of preparing to go out at night, setting up scopes, patience, accuracy, cleaning etc. Anyway, guess I'm just excited and proud to be with my boy!

Nothing better than spending time with your kids (especially, son) to work on the project. Good luck and have fun on the Scion project and gun classes.
Off topic: I just finished resurfaced/epoxy the garage floor project with my son yesterday. He couldn't go out to the sun so we decided to work in door. |

Every kid should learn how to shoot a gun, whether pellet or bullets. Shooting is part of our American heritage. Check out Project Appleseed, if you have an opportunity to go to one of their events you should take your son. It's a cool combination of shooting and revolutionary history.

Both of you are going to have a blast!
Figuratively and literally. Too many kids these days, grow up being raised by xbox and playstation. It's great seeing parents take an active role in raising their kids. The only drawback is you're both going to get hooked and its gonna be expensive!

Glad to hear you and your son are going to take up shooting! I had shot some in the past, but got bit pretty good by the shooting/gun bug this year and it is a really fun hobby to pick up. Goes well with off roading and camping too!
I am actually picking up another gun this week!

Wait, I thought you and I used to have some good debates about gun control back in the YT days? Or maybe that was Andries?
Which range are you going to?

That sounds like a great little hobby to start with your son!
It's a great hobby for my wife and I there is a nice range a few miles from my house and a nice one that we go to that stays open late right next to Drakes Brewery in San Leandro. Here is my little guy 1943 Ithaca M1911A1 ![]() I have been thinking about taking some classes and joining the local gun club but I guess time just gets away from me...
