So I found out - Glocks are harder to load cartridges into the magazine than the Sig's. Liked the feel of the Sig better but its an old model.
Sam found out the 9mm was a little intimidating and preferred the .22 Loved this opportunity. Will go again. Sam really started to get in the zone and was shooting quickly, confidently and accurately it seemed.

Yeah, I must have had you confused with somebody else.
Most double stack magazines are kinda hard to load. Since I shoot competition, I need to reload a lot and the uplula helps keep your fingers from hurting. http://www.maglula.com/

My normal toy is an AR-15. It is a great platform, and building/modifying them is very very addicting. I am thinking of starting a 7.62 or 9mm AR budget build sometime soon (my spare parts are building up and staring at me). Also have the Marlin 795. I think everyone should own a 795, Model 60 or 10/22! Fun .22 to plink around with. I will try to get some new photos of my AR sometime this week.

That's awesome!
As a son of a father who took me hunting as a kid, I will say its one of the best man-to-man, father-to-son, life lessons I have ever learned. Knowledge on guns, is much more than just the gun. Its learning to be responsible with something so powerful and using it as a hobby rather than a means. When I have kids, who knows when at this point , it will be something I do with my son if I have one. Such a bond. Congratulations! Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2

Another option, which I have, is a .22 drop in conversion. Not as accurate, but it is fine for plinking! Oh they do!

congrats! he will get used to the bigger calibers as he gains some confience. my wife loves 9mm now, thinks the 10/22 is boring and doesnt like the 556, my 556 rilfe is just under 5 lbs, so it kicks like a mule!

Mark, a .22 pistol is great for him to start off with. Little recoil, good for getting down the fundamentals of grip, sight picture, breathing and trigger squeeze. Ammo is cheap enough you can shoot all day. I have a feeling though, that once the both of you are hooked, you're going to want something more "substantial". If you ever plan on getting a 1911 .45, the Browning 1911-22 would be a good weapon to transition from since the grip and safety is similar.
Here are a few to consider: Ruger SR22 Retail $399 ![]() Ruger Mark III Standard Retail $379 ![]() Browning BuckmarkRetail $419.99 ![]() Browning 1911-22 Retail $599.99 ![]() Another option is getting a full size 1911 and also a .22 conversion slide. Two guns in one, the best of both worlds. Kimber 1911 ![]() .22 slide conversion ![]() Quote:

Dave - Thx! That Ruger Sr22 looks just perfect for son. We have been reading up on it and sounds like a great entry target pistol.
We had a few LAPD guys with us at Big Bear Braii last weekend and they showed me a selection. I have to speak to Tim or his friend Mark (both really great guys!) about his carry pistol. I forgot the details but it felt very comfortable to me. Will post details when I get them. I guess I better get a license!
