Cool Rook's '05 4Runner

Hey all!
I've been around a while. Now that I've made some progress with the truck, I figured its time for a proper intro. My wife and I live in Mid-coast Maine. Its a great place to be, we suffer through the winter but get paid back with the best summer weather anyone could ask for. I have just begun to discover the areas where there are miles of dirt roads, trails, lakes, streams, hills (and even a new offroad park!) found throughout the great state.

I also want to thank a lot of the members here who have helped me out answering questions and for all the valuable info here at 120.

Here is the truck stock. The dog is our 6yr old lab named Calvin. He goes everywhere with me. He even follows me around the house... constantly

I customized some FJ wheels by sandblasting and repainting with Toyota's Shadow Mica and a few coats of urethane clearcoat. They look good in the sun, it brings out the metallic.

I use the original wheels for snow duty. These are 265/70/17 Nokian Hakka 5 SUV and they are the best snows I've owned.

I just finished installing IVD CO's up front and ICON Springs and shocks in back. Shipped from Findlay!

The PRO COMP's are Xtreme MT 285/70/17 I am going to try them on the FJ Wheels. I hope the different offset will allow them to fit with only minor trimming. Otherwise I'll get a set of UCA's. ..theres the dog following me around

Still to come: Shrockworks Bumper and Sliders on order

Heres a couple of pics I've taken while traveling with the truck

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

Love your dog and the truck looks great. I really like the black wheels and actually, on your truck, the white lettering outside of the tires looks cool.

Did you do any trimming to get the tires to fit without rubbing?

Your 4R looks good too.

The last picture is nice and clean... BTW, I like your truck. I have my ProComps for nearly a year and I love them, awesome grip in any surface from asfalt to stick mud and sand.

Nice meats...I'm running 285's w/ spacers on stock wheels. What are you going to do about the rubbing?

Sid- I removed the front mud guards and still have to trim the inner fender lining.

Alex-Thanks, I agree about the tires. Good all around tire drives very well for an MT. I PM'd you a while back and it was based in part on your reco that I got them.

Rob- I have no uca or body mount rubbing isues with the FJ wheels providing just enough offset. Just rubbing plastic.

Huge differences in tire. I love the new ones you have. I noticed that Alexjet and his shop push for the Procomps because they are good tires. I like your rims too. Keep it up.

Its sitting in the garage. Its the middle of winter and this one's been particularly brutal. I'm just waiting for a decent weather day to put it on.

1rook, did you get that special anti rust coating on the coilovers? Does it help?

call me Rook. 120 required a screen name of at least 5 letters and I wasn't feeling creative when I signed on.

I did not purchase the specially coated co's. I did buy a can of Loctite rust preventer that should last a the winter. We'll see how they hold up. This winter has been brutal.

they are 17x7.5 offset is +15

I calculate the bs to be approx 4.25". (4.75 real world)
I called Pro comp the other day to get an explanation on how they measure BS. They go from the outside of the bead. Therefore it adds another 0.5". E.g. a 18x9 zero offset had 5" backspacing.

Rook, how are you liking the Icon rear setup? I have the Icon fronts and I am debating on a rear setup.

For me, they are just right. I do not carry a lot of weight in the back and the spring / shock setup is setup nice for control off road and smooth ride on.
