Default 2004 4Runner SAS

Obviously a few more things needed, and a few things are still up for decision, but

I've been PMing w/Sol over at the Blue Board on the gotchas, and of course any constructive input here is much appreciated.

Iron Pig Offroad will perform the work for me, build scheduled to start in early November. I'll try to persuade them to take pictures at the major milestones and of course I'll visit at regular intervals.

I'm going to have some things for sale in about 4-5 months. I'll put them in the For Sale Forum once I get things organized, but here's off the top of my head.

Budbuilt Skids (at least a couple of them, maybe all)
DR Coilovers and Rear Shocks
Deaver Springs
5 - 33" BFG AT Tires (16")
5 - 34" BFG AT Tires (16")
1 - 32" BFG AT Tire (17")
Wheels (5 - 16" Wheeler's Offroad and 5 - 16" Chambers)

...and some OEM garage sale items...

(third members with gears, halfshafts, control arms, spindles, steering components, etc..)

stock running boards
stock skids
rear taillights
front fogs
front turnsignals
V8 tow hitch
5 - GX470 wheels

My bank account is a little lighter this evening...

Very cool!!!!!!! Can't wait to see it evolve.

Will you retain any of the ABS sensors? What tires are you planning on running?

Looks like you will using FJ60 carriers and R&Ps, any reason for that?

9.5" toyota centers, cause people run 35 to 37's on them with out any issue.

I blame Toyota120 and Crozhawk for this.

Somewhere around a 36" tire, maybe 37, and Staun beadlocks.

IPOR will attempt to retain the ABS sensors by first trying some spare FJ80 (I think) knuckles and seeing if they can get the sensor rings to work. They have a direct link to a TRD guy who they've been bouncing ideas off of.

All-Pro said they are working on something, we'll see if that materializes and retrofit if it ever does. No luck with MetalTech at this point either.

Sol also said he has some ideas, so we'll see what the future brings. If nothing works, C'est la vie.

I had been saving my pennies for a D4D swap for a while - which costs about the same. Also, Dave and I began talking about a Spring trip back out West like last year...except longer...what we wanted to run and see. At that time, we also started talking about Cruisers and 6" Slee lifts, 37 inch tires, expedition runs, and we thought...well one of us should SAS and the other do LT or get a Cruiser. I've always wanted a solid axle and I have no room for an extra truck, so I volunteered.

Dave and I sat down and brainstormed a list. I contacted IPOR about a month ago and they started doing research. I went down yesterday and talked numbers and specifics. I gotta tell ya, they have some amazing Cruiser Projects in the works down there. 4-link suspensions, V8 swaps, buggys...I'll bring my camera and take pictures of their other work if they allow me.

The Johnny Joints, that is what IPOR have used/is using on their projects. We talked about them for a while and I am happy with the decision.

These are sitting in my living room right now. Never been used, just used for mockups...so that saved me 400 bucks...so I'm already ahead...uh yeah, that's the ticket.

I actually started to lose my mind a bit while we were looking over the truck...was like...crawl box, 4 link rear, fuel tank remove and redo in rear...but my budget would totally be destroyed by then. As it sits, I'm already over a bit, but I knew what I was getting myself in to.

They invited me to a Cruiser Run at Rausch Creek in a few weeks. I need to get the registration filled out this morning and sent out! So sit tight till late October/early November...more to come!

Tim, you are my ambassador of "Kwan"!!

I've seen their work first hand as well and I'm happy you went with them. They are talented and experienced. I know we could have done it, but they've all ready come up against all the challenges we would have encountered ....and the whole "distance" thingy...

I'm happy for you, and "overtly" jealous. Our trip next spring will be one to remember for sure!

finally!
I have been trying to talk Andries into sas forever. I also thought the 80 abs ring might work but you will need more sensors.

what are you using for control arms? Slee's 80 arms? or is it going to be a 3 link?

personally, i say go for rubber oem bushings and don't mess with jjoints.

3-Link. I'll give the FJ80 knuckle feedback to IPOR, thanks!

I'm in no rush for SAS (yet). I am however very excited about this project. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I Went to Raush Creek with the Bay to Blue Ridge Cruisers and Iron Pig for their Fall Crawl. Now that their event is done, my truck is one step closer to getting in their shop.

I had some minor carnage:

Dave...no need for the plasma cutter anymore for the low hanging exhaust. It sounds really good now! Thanks to a treestump on some whoop-dee-dos, it got tucked under my rear tire. A trail sawzall and voila...anybody want a Magnaflow without the tail pipe? I have to get a totally custom exhaust system anyway.

My pretty POR15 job...oh well, these are getting cut off and moved up higher anyway.

CBI did what is was designed for...

I told Cam last night that my alignment was now totally off and was that going to be a problem...

Most likely I'm going to do without and pull the lights in the dash (Sol has also made some recommendations). IPOR is going to experiment a bit with FJ80 knuckles, but most likely going without for now...

That reminds me, I need to call them.

I figured the only way around it was to put a tundra ecm and harness, for motor and put a tundra master cyl, and then put a atlas case in it. if you use the stock case i think the abs will trying to come on all the time if there is no input from the front. if you could find a way to put tone rings on front housing that would be sweet.
